In a historical building of Jūrmala with a romantic tower and intricate wooden cut-outs on the gable of the veranda, an elegant flat was created by the design team of Neoklasika. It's an environment which ensures relaxation in the atmosphere so characteristic of the resort city’s landscape. The concept of the interior was drawn from Jūrmala with its characteristic sand and beige tones, the calming proximity of nature and the textures that are so familiar to the human senses. The stylistic task of the designers was to achieve a cosy, minimalistic and timeless interior.
The sunny apartment, which has a living room, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a hall and a spacious open terrace, is mainly used by the owners as a summer home. When renovating, the main goal was to find a functional solution for the extended, rectangular configuration of the flat and create a cosy environment for leisure. The entrance hall that becomes the central node.
Large windows and a glass wall visually break down the borders between the external environment and the interior, thus bringing inhabitants even closer to nature. A graphic touch can be felt in the interior, especially in the clear lines and shapes as well as the contrast of tones – the dark wenge furniture accentuates the rooms in contrast to the sand-coloured palette.
Details take on particular importance when designing minimal interior. Each detail has an equally significant role. Materials and tones are precisely selected to complement each other. The unifying element of the interior concept is romantic theme. Smoky brownish photos, taken in the early 20th century, have found new life thanks to large scale laser printing and exhibited throughout the flat. Fishing boats and every-day beach scenes with joyful holidaymakers from former resort of Marienbad . They make you want to smile and imagine the past, when ladies strolled along the beach in long dresses and sometimes recklessly wet their feet without changing out of their gowns.
