How to create a contemporary living space in an attic in the Old Town of Riga? This is Neoklasika’s interpretation of a contemporary interior in a historical space that is suitable for today’s lifestyle. The apartment has been designed on two levels, allocating space on the first level for an open plan kitchen, dining room and lounge spaces. Respecting the historical structure of the beams and structural supports, a fine lighting system has been created, accenting the roof’s slope and the structural elements.
The overall atmosphere of the interior has been designed to be light and tranquil, complementing this with vivid colour accents and highlighting the furniture created in collaboration with the Italian manufacturer ‘’Tura’’. Above the lounge area, it is impossible not to notice the impressive chandelier made by the Italian manufacturer ‘’Barovier & Toso’’. This chandelier serves as a metaphor for the co-existence of the historical and the contemporary – ‘’Barovier & Toso’’ is one of the world’s oldest companies – founded in 1295 and is thus as old as Riga itself. The Venetian company has moved with the times and these days on the island of Murano it produces chandeliers not only for the Vatican and Renaissance palaces, but also lighting fixtures with contemporary design.
The overall visual concept continues in the bedrooms and bathrooms – contemporary lightness combined with stylised historical forms and elements. For example, the ‘’Caadre’’ mirror designed by Philippe Starck in the master's bathroom epitomises this concept elegantly.
